Excerpt:
I walk up the steps and ring the doorbell, stuffing my hands into the pockets of my Daytona Fury sweatpants while I wait. Shifting from one foot to the other, nerves suddenly wash over me as I hear her approach. The subsequent groan coming from the other side of the door tells me that sheβs looking through the peephole. I wink, just in case, right before it inches open and she peeks out.
βIβm not interested in any Girl Scout cookies today, but thanks,β she says, barely able to open her eyes. Even when sheβs half asleep, sheβs still a goddamn smart-ass.
βNo cookies, sweetheart,β I reply. βBut I have a nice, big sausage if youβre hungry.β
She scoffs. βYouβre disgusting. Why are you here?β
βFirst of all, youβre lucky I donβt remind you exactly how not disgusting you thought I was when I was balls deep inside you,β I say smugly. βSecondly, I need to talk to you. Can I come in?β
βIf I let you in, do you swear to get whatever this is over with and leave me alone?β
βYes. Girl Scoutsβ honor,β I promise, holding up two fingers as if Iβm pledging an oath. βFive minutes of your time. Then Iβll never bug you again.β Thatβs a boldfaced lie, but whatever. Maybe Iβm an asshole, but I get joy out of driving Monroe crazy. Itβs easy and sheβs cute when sheβs mad.
βFine.β
